Washington D.C. and the Potomac River are considered by many paddlers to be the best location for whitewater kayak instruction in the country. The warm, deep Potomac River attracts some of the best paddlers in the world to make their home in the D.C. area.

    Valley Mill Kayak School’s curriculum is unique in the Washington D.C. area. Our instructional program teaches the methods of former Olympian and World Freestyle Champion Eric Jackson (“EJ” to those who know him) and it features the most recent teaching techniques and technical knowledge available in whitewater paddling today. Furthermore, by limiting our class sizes to a 5:1 student to instructor ratio, we provide the smallest classes with the most personalized instruction on the river. VMKS instructors are certified by the American Canoe Association as well as personally trained by Eric Jackson.
