Maryland Chute Out Results from July 27, 2006

Report:

With the low water levels and recent competitions (last Chute Out and PotomacFest were only a couple weeks ago), I did not expect a good turn-out for this event. But in the end we had a good number of people show up, especially in the women's and C-1 classes, and it was a great event.

Some highlights included Anatoli's unstoppable right cartwheels, Seth sticking a loop (in VA Chute!), Howard nailing 4 spins in a row (sadly on a practice ride, not scored), and Matt and Nathan deciding at the last minute to compete C-1. Nathan didn't even have a C-1, he just kneeled down in his kayak and wedged himself in under the thigh braces--and was even able to roll this way.

The distinction between K1-A and K1-B classes was even more arbitrary this week than usual, with the highest kayak score (by far) going to a B class competitor, and some folks who normally paddle in B forced to paddle with the A class due to tardyness.

Two special mentions: Nathan Sass competed in 3 separate classes, paddling in Jr, C-1, and K1-A for a total of 6 rides. And demonstrating his mastery of all things paddlings, Joe currently sits in second place for BOTH C-1 and K1-A.
